Home Renovation Rebate and EfficiencyBC Program

Launched as of September 28, 2018, and administered by BC Hydro, FortisBC, and the province of BC, provides rebates for improving your home's energy efficiency through select upgrades.  

Please read carefully and check eligibility requirements, upgrade requirements, terms and conditions, and deadlines on all rebates you are considering. 

Individual Upgrades

Insulation - up to $5,000 

Ductless Heat Pump - up to $3,000

  • Mini-Split or Multi-Split Air Source Heat Pump 
  • $1,000 to $1,200 for replacing your electric heating system with a mini-split or multi-split heat pump
  • Select municipalities offer an additional $2,000 for replacing your oil, propane, or natural gas heating system with a mini-split or multi-split heat pump 
    • Convert to Electric Heat Pump Space Heating Top-up (City of Campbell River $2,000 and Comox Valley Regional District $350) 

Central Heat Pump - up to $2,000

  • Central System Air Source Heat Pump 
    • $2,000 for installing variable speed air source central system heat pump 
Combination Space and Water Heat Pump - up to $3,000

Electric Heat Pump Water Heater - up to $1,000
  • $1,000 rebate for upgrading your current water heater to a qualifying electric heat pump water heater 
  • Model list for eligibility ( must be tier 2 or higher) 
Natural Gas Furnace or Boiler - up to $700
  • Up to $700 when replacing your old gas furnace or $500 when replacing your gas boiler with an eligible high-efficiency ENERGY STAR model 
Natural Gas Water Heater - up to $1,000
  • $1,000 rebate for replacing your current water heater with a high-efficiency natural gas water heater
  • Tankless/ on-demand and storage tank systems are eligible
  • Model list for eligibility 
  • The natural gas water heater must be on the list of qualifying models 
Natural Gas Fireplace -  $300 per fireplace
  • $300 rebate for upgrading to a high-efficiency natural gas EnerChoice gas fireplace 
  • Model list for eligibility (not all EnerChoice models qualify for the rebate) 
  • Replacing an existing gas fireplace in the home (to count on the Two Upgrade Bonus or the Home Energy Improvement Bonus) 
Windows and Doors - $50 per window or door 

Bonus Offers

Municipal offers are available when switching from natural gas, oil, or propane to an electric air-source heat pump or for completing a pre-and post-retrofit EnerGuide home evaluation (additional $150).
Convert to an Electric Heat Pump Space Heating Top-up 

  • Campbell River $2,000
  • Comox Valley $350

Two Upgrade Bonus

  • Receive an additional $300 rebate for installing two eligible upgrades (listed above)
  • This rebate does not require an EnerGuide home evaluation

EnerGuide Home Evaluation Rebate 

Home Energy Improvement Bonus  

  • Requires both a pre-and post-retrofit EnerGuide home evaluation by a program- qualified energy advisor
  • Receive up to $2,000 for installing 3 or more eligible energy efficient upgrades between two EnerGuide home evaluations
  • Receive $20 for every percentage you reduce your EnerGuide rating (GJ/ year) between your pre-and post-retrofit EnerGuide home evaluation 

Participants can receive either the Two Upgrade Bonus or the Home Energy Improvement Bonus, but not both.



  • Upgrade completed on or after September 28, 2018 
  • Live in an eligible home 
  • Electricity, natural gas, oil, or propane is the primary heating fuel 
  • Have a minimum of 12 months or consecutive billing history for the home 

When to Apply: 

Individual Upgrades - application submitted within 6 months of invoice date for the upgrade.  

Two Upgrade Bonus - application must be submitted after second bonus-eligible upgrade is installed and within 18 months of the invoice date of the first bonus-eligible upgrade. 

Home Energy Improvement Bonus and EnerGuide Home Evaluation: application must be submitted within 18 months of your pre-retrofit EnerGuide home evaluation, and after your post-retrofit EnerGuide home evaluation. 

How to Apply:  

Each Home Renovation Rebate and EfficiencyBC program has an online application (please carefully read over the upgrade requirements as they are very specific for each rebate).
